What makes Lab Support & Write-up Spaces
Support space is what makes the laboratory itself work efficiently, the write-up, welfare, storage and preparation areas around the working benches, usually under-provided in a standard fit-out.
Design considerations for Lab Support & Write-up Spaces
Write-up, meeting and welfare space adjacent to the laboratory but outside the working environment; cold rooms, media preparation, wash-up and autoclave provision, with the services and ventilation each needs; bulk and consumable storage, including flammables and chemical storage to the relevant standards; clear separation of clean, contained and office environments, with a considered transition between them; goods-in, decanting and waste holding areas and the routes between them; and acoustic and thermal separation so instrument and plant noise does not carry into write-up space.
Regulatory context
Chemical and flammables storage standards, and the separation requirements that follow from the adjacent laboratory’s own accreditation.
How Axentia delivers Lab Support & Write-up Space projects
The delivery model depends on scale. If your project is smaller, either because the base facility already exists or the scale is modest, we may be able to take it on as Principal Contractor. If the space is being built from scratch, or forms part of a larger laboratory build, Construction Management is usually the better fit.

Lab Support & Write-up Spaces FAQs
What are the specific requirements of lab support and write-up space?
Support space is what makes the laboratory itself work efficiently, and it is usually under-provided:
- Write-up, meeting and welfare space adjacent to the laboratory but outside the working environment.
- Cold rooms, media preparation, wash-up and autoclave provision, with the services and ventilation each needs.
- Bulk and consumable storage, including flammables and chemical storage to the relevant standards.
- Clear separation of clean, contained and office environments, with a considered transition between them.
- Goods-in, decanting and waste holding areas, and the routes between them.
- Acoustic and thermal separation so instrument and plant noise does not carry into write-up space.
I am looking to build lab support or clinical write-up space. What sort of delivery model is best for me?
The delivery model depends on a few factors. If your project is smaller, either because the base facility already exists or the scale is modest, we may be able to take it on as Principal Contractor, which has several benefits set out on our services pages. However, if the space is to be built from scratch, or forms part of a larger laboratory build, you may be better suited to our Construction Management model.
